I know maybe you will say I have gone crazy because there is no way a website can rank without a single back-link. But let me tell you I am not joking it is true and I have seen it.
After seeing all those Google panda and penguin update I have decided that I will not waste my time anymore by building back-links because they are waste of time and gets a website in trouble if you don’t know how SEO works and what type of link is legit in Google’s eyes.

If you post has out links in it then make sure the link comes from an authority site.
Make posts mainly for people not for search engines.
Don’t think too much about on-page SEO.
Use images and videos on your post and make sure you use the alt text to let Google understand what your image is about.

Don’t approve any comments that contains bad words and if the comment has a website link in it then make sure you visit the website and check if it is OK. If you approve low quality sites then your ranking will go down.
Make your article word count at least 300 because sites with small content will fall in the penguin update.
Make sure your article has no grammatical errors and spellings are OK, if you are using WordPress then you can use this amazing plugin after the deadline which automatically corrects your grammar and spelling errors.
Make your website faster because slow sites gets poor rankings.
Update your website regularly with fresh content.
